FYI, if you’re going to have an affair with a Senator there are a few things you should keep in mind: avoid a paper trail, and do not text each other, DUH! Cheating 101. When Doug Hampton went to work as co-chief of staff for Senator Ensign, little did he know that while he was putting in long hours at the office, Ensign was also putting in some long hard hours with Doug Hampton’s wife. The lid was blown off the Senator’s affair when Hampton found a raunchy text message from his wife on Ensign’s phone. When Hampton confronted Ensign about the affair, he claimed that Ensign cried like a baby, apologizing for any wrong doing. Hampton went back to work for Ensign only to find out later that year, that the affair was still going on. How did he find out? Hampton asked to borrow Ensign’s phone, dialed his wife’s number, and low and behold “Aunt Judy” popped up on the screen. Nice cover up, Ensign. “And then I realize, Wow, wow, something is seriously wrong,” Hampton said, that the affair was still going on. Busted by technology…twice.
In true Senatorial fashion, Ensign stated, “I truly wish that I could publicly respond to each one of Doug Hampton’s allegations,” Ensign said. “They are full of half truths and untruths. I will cooperate with any investigation because I have not violated any law or Senate ethics rule. If Doug Hampton violated federal law and rules, I did not advise him to do so, I did not suggest that he do so, and I did not cooperate with his doing so.” The icing on the cake? Ensign is being investigated for unethical political practices for supposedly giving the Hampton family around $100,000, which the Ensign camp claims was completely within bounds.
Don’t let technology blow up your game! Delete texts and try to think of a better cover than “Aunt Judy.” Busted, much?
