In the constant battle between clean and dirty content and what should be delivered to mainstream audiences, lately it’s seemed like those in favor or clean programing have been on top. The Apple app store cleaned house of many best selling semi dirty apps and next on the list is video on demand channel VUDU. The popular video on demand channel that currently features AVN’s “After Dark” series, has been bought out by Wal-Mart who plans to discontinue the channel.
Wal-Mart is a company that is no stranger to adult content. Announcing in November their plan to sell adult toys in the superstores “home pleasure center,” it seemed that Wal-Mart might be sympathetic towards keeping the raunchy :After Dark” series. Not the case. Wal-Mart plans to discontinue the channel within the next few weeks and to completely pull all porns purchased via VUDU, with a full refund. That means if you bought a porn, and you go on VUDU to watch it, within the next few weeks it will be gone. What a buzzkill.
A VUDU spokesperson said in an e-mail to customers, “As you may have recently heard, VUDU was acquired by Wal-Mart,” the email reads. “In conjunction with this acquisition we will be discontinuing the ‘After Dark’ adult service over the coming days. Upon completion of the shutdown process, we will settle all accounts with you and ensure that you are paid the full amount you are owed under our existing agreement.”
The agreement to remove adult content from the video on demand channel comes to a major blow to the adult industry, that looked towards video on demand as one of the next big channels for porn distribution.

Yes the porn is the word which makes everyone happier but behind the doors. Publicly it is connected to hell.

Even if the quote “porn industry” sank tomorow, porn would not dissapear. It would simply take on another form. You can already see that happening as you mentioned with sites like youporn.com or redtube.com.
That said, the porn industry has survived this long and through much worse times than today so im sure they will be fine in the long run.
I think if they will want to inovate, they should start sellling it on sdcards, usb thumbdrives, or setup their own home movie rental service. Call it Pornflix or Netporn. (netflix ripoff) I bet it would get a lot of subscribers and generate profits.
