Like .com, .biz, or .gov, .xxx is a domain name that would theoretically be assigned to all adult content. For example, porn.xxx. A good idea in theory, this domain name is being slammed by the porno union, The Free Speech Coalition’s. They claim that ICANN, the company controlling the domain is not part of the adult entertainment industry and does not have its support.
Also unsupported by the FCC, .xxx has only recently been debated again when found that the previous rulings of its 2007 rejection broke ICANN’s own rules.
“Our resolute position is that no self-respecting industry would ever agree to have a minority voice on a board tasked with setting critical policies for its members,” executive director of the Free Speech Coalition, Diane Duke wrote.
ICANN is expected to make a decision, or at least try to move the issue forward, at its public meeting in Brussels this June.
